Are you smarter than an 8th grader from 1912?

Feeling testy today? An old exam from 1912 was found recently, offering us a viewpoint into the world of a early 20th century student. And don't be scared, the answers are provided at the Museum's Website.  :)

Journaling can be powerful. When it is faced to the public it can be different. I know somebody could be reading this, but I'm not so apprehensive anymore. Working on that fearlessness.

Pushing to Excellence

Sometimes it is our privilege, maybe our duty, to push others on towards success. Are we pushing ourselves on enough towards that goal? Of course the example comes first. Have we found in ourselves the fire within to push towards excellence, enough that burns outwards towards our friends, and dare I say, what we might consider our competition? When's the last time you cheered on the one who made the role before you? Who made the time, or distance, when you couldn't? When will we turn that jealousy into inspiration? That is the challenge, is it not? Is it not the challenge to continue to press on, when it seems there is no possibility, but knowing there is no alternative but to continue? To burn the ships as you set shore? This is your time. And it ticks ticks ticks to the point that you are driven to madness you can't even watch the latest craze because it was what you should have been could have been would have been if it weren't for... if it weren't because... what excuse will there be to quit? There is no excuse to quit, unless you plan to be moving in a different direction, faster than the one before. Unless lightspeed is your preferred velocity. Where are you boldy headed? Where is your destination?

To Blog or...

I'm having a love/hate relationship with the idea of starting a personal blog. For one reason, I may or probably will not agree with my thoughts or opinions in the future that I write now. Other reasons, vulnerability to crazy people?

However, I do consider myself a creative artist. But what's the point?

I could do it to start proving to myself or others that I know how to form sentences. I could also be proving the opposite. Maybe with enough sentences it can help inspire some more art to be created. The world can never have enough art. Bad art is still art. Bad blogs can still be art. Better to have art out than none at all.

The Advantages to Staying Calm

As I'm going though life, I'm finding out that somehow I am continuing to survive, despite the best and worst decisions I make. (As I'm writing this I think it is worth mentioning that I'm having a great day.)

I know many people spend a lot of mental energy worrying. I do too. I think it is worth noticing that the worry doesn't do me any good. If I'm able to conquer the worry, I win. The more I see this, the more I am able to realize that I have something within me that will be able to "make it at the end of the month".

Here's how I check if I'm beating the worry. I take a deep breath. Then I do it again. Simple, yet effective...

#ThankATeacher

Thank you teachers that put up with crazy kids, that put together lesson plans that push the edge of the standard test. Thank you teachers that reach out to the troubled ones that see there's a little more in everyone than what may have been expected.

Thank you Moms, Grandfathers, Grandmothers, Uncles, Dads, friends!

Star Trekkin'

Goofy stuff... But I gotta admit, I love the show :-)
I must preach for the Original Trek. One vulcanized glory of three seasons that brought our world to the day of today. I must preach of the Trek pre Next generation. The writing of Gene. The fighter pilot Gene. The hero and penmaster all in one. The glory of the beeps and the boops and the long earring hoops. The vision of a future where green and brown meant nothing around town where pause and silence only meant causes for preposition and acquisition of new thought and new breath to breathe…
The pointed ears and the spirited years of what they could only fear would never be near but it came along with it throngs of what could and couldn’t belong no I could never be wrong even without punctuation I am free as a nation of one person one conscience under one God of precaution I don’t care where it posts I am now just the host of the ramblings that come from behind infront and above.
I'm glad it was only Three. It was all it needed. Fascinating Captain you captured the world in a snow globe and shook it up and still live to tell how we can always be well, how we can love truthfully. Thankfully. Fanboys existed and long persisted of live long and prospers and force be with you after the glory days we still gaze to the stars and wonder will we ever tell of the day when we took the rocket past the haze of the wrongs we have made to each other to the world, but more to ourselves. Be it ever so well, may we long live to tell of the spell that casts upon us when we look to the strongest when we seek for what’s always been right next to us within us around us and near us. Steady as she goes I hope for the best.

Entertainment Mind Control

Opinion.
The Office will be over soon. and will I find myself either looking for more episodic content to feed my mind, or say to myself, “watching every episode of a show and loving every last bit of dialogue, every last character that came through, and every trailing plot and subplot was fun, what else should I experience now?”
What else is there to do? Write about it? Blah.
There are very few shows that have been able to keep me so captivated into the character. It gave me almost the same experience as reading a book, but of course not so labor some with all the "reading". (Closed captioning doesn't count, right)

So, in so many ways, when I needed the Linus blanket the most, or just wanted to kick back, thank you, The Office, for all the heart and soul that I know you put into that show.

House Cleaning

There’s something that puts my “mental” in order when everything is in “decent” order in the house.
It used to not bother me so much, but. I kinda like everything being in a good place. I definitely spend a lot less time looking for crap when I’m not losing it :)
Another thing that helps? Getting rid of junk. Especially junk that doesn't work anymore. There's always a Goodwill or a Craigslist that can replace whatever $5 cord that I'm hanging onto for some reason. Lighten the load, and I lighten the strain on my mental motherboard.

Opinions are like...

It's a good idea to keep writing. Opinion. I'm testing the blogging procedure out. I might write about what I think, or whatever spits out.

I think about the future a lot. I think about how movies this year seem to be about a place without humans on earth. I wonder, if that were to happen, would it allow other animals the freedom to become sentient? Or is there a greater collective consciousness that could rise simultaneously from one system?

It seems entirely possible. A human body is no more than a billion different "things" put together. What if it acted like a flock of birds changing course. One piece of the puzzle rattling like a slinky to affect the other.

What are we doing here? Have we progressed? Putting ourselves on the moon was big. But I also can't put too much water in my fishtank because the darn thing just would jump right outta there.

I hope the internet doesn't hold us back. Millions of people spent millions of hours planting a fake corn crop for a few years. That was interesting.
